The Friends’ leadership represents institutions with long-standing interests in promoting the legacy of W.E.B. DuBois in the town and region, including


W.E.B. Du Bois, Nina Gomer Du Bois, and James Weldom Johnson
 at the Burghardt homesite in Great Barrington on 23 February 1928, 
on the occasion of Du Bois's sixtieth birthday.

The Friends is a formally adopted project of the Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area (Housatonic Heritage), which is a non-profit 501c3 charitable organization.
